Only legally playable for mere months, the Spaghetti Tennis Racket allowed amateurs and virtual nobodies to beat top ranked players at the world’s biggest tournaments. As word spread of this racket system’s supposed magical capabilities backed by real results, behind the scenes were those determined to stamp the racket out before it truly took off, a controversy who’s ramifications potentially changed the entire future landscape of tennis.

    Don't get me wrong, I find Tennis insanely boring to watch (and I don't even know why UA-cam recommended this video to me), but it's still a bazillion times cooler than a Sport that's called "Pickleball". Do these people even listen to themselves?

    I would prefer it if no coaching was allowed. If the issue gets too big because of "cheating" then the obvious answer is: don't allow coaches close to the players where he can give advice.

    Should be disallowed. This is what made this sport unique from the others. I get how it was often broken to begin with, but this is only going to serve to widen the gap between established players and up-and-coming players.

    • @vonbraun8051
      @vonbraun8051 5 днів тому

      I'm sure you meant "frightened" by innovation. For your information pickleball was invented by some wealthy Seattle kids back in the 60's (boomers). They were encouraged by their parents to create a new sport using the equipment they had from other sports around the house. Best comparison--tennis is chess and pickleball is checkers.

    Holy shit, so many people complaining about tennis courts that are getting ruined by wear and tear. Those courts are seeing about 100 times more use since tennis is prohibatively expensive to get into from an equipment, training, and time perspective. Tennis is viewed as a pretentious sport for pretentious people, and all the comments that basically say they'd rather see courts empty instead of in-use by the common rabble doesn't help.

      @Greenfield-yf1wh 2 дні тому

      Here in Australia we have some outdoor and indoor carpet courts in the suburbs which traditionally couldn't afford either grass or (red) clay courts. Carpet courts were deemed a better choice than hard courts as carpet courts are easier to maintain & the players are less likely to be injured because of its relatively soft surface. It used to be a default choice for many parents.

    Ironically I think the take that the game being played almost entirely from the back of the court would be boring kinda turned out to be true. I do think serve and volley play is overall less favored and the long ralleys can get a little stale. Just my opinion in terms of what i would like to watch tho

    Lets remember something worse than coaching: even Federer asked his mother to not go to the matches because of her loud way to root or him and complain. I am so relieved that this rule was ditched so we can concentrate in tennis at last. In bridge championships the illegal communication was blocked by using a curtain between pairs of players, if ATP and WTA didn't really wanted coaching it was just put the coaches inside a booth). And sorry but sport is made of inequality: nobody goes to see the 300th rank player (except their relatives and compatriots in case there are few players in the country): they go to see Djokovic. Those top tier players are what pay the bills of tennis. And sometimes we see surprises coming from nowhere, each time more newcomers shining. So let's cut the inequality bullshit: what do we want? All matches end on a tie like tic-tac-toe? This is why tic-tac-toe is boring because anyone can master it. That is why we have sponsors, everybody want to be the sponsor of the next Nadal. The change of rules that I didn't like was the 30 seconds time for serving it was a ritual that created a beautiful tension ... now we have a lot of serving time violations that take time too.

    Your story is similar to that of the major in the tv program. If you want the contestants 100% isolated put them in a box with walls where they can’t hear nor see the audience. What do you think happens when the fans clap and cheer to encourage their favorite, isn’t that a form of coaching? How many times Djokovic won despite being the non favorite? Or have many slams won Tsitsipas despite his dad? Your approach is too simplistic. You think that Dundee fought Ali’s or Leonard’s fights? Coaching should be allowed in tennis
